Botox®

Reduce wrinkles and rejuvenate your look

Serving Burlington, Norwell, Lexington, Woburn, Cambridge, and the Greater Boston Area

Wrinkles and expression lines do not have to define how you look. At Flawless Medspa, our Master Nurse Injectors, Lisa Allison, CNP and Caitlyn O’Donnell, RN, provide Botox® treatments to soften dynamic lines while keeping facial expressions natural.

With offices in Burlington and Norwell, MA, we serve patients throughout Lexington, Woburn, Cambridge, and the Greater Boston Area. Our providers have advanced training in non-surgical injectable techniques and are recognized as Platinum Plus injectors with Allergan, reflecting extensive experience with leading treatments such as Botox®, Juvéderm®, and Kybella®.

What Is Botox and How Does It Work?

Botox Cosmetic is an FDA-approved injectable neuromodulator made from purified botulinum toxin type A (onabotulinumtoxinA). It is used to temporarily relax specific facial muscles that drive dynamic wrinkles, including the lines that appear when you frown, squint, or raise your eyebrows.

Unlike dermal fillers, which add volume beneath the skin, Botox works on muscles. When the targeted muscles relax, the overlying skin smooths, and lines that have formed from repeated movement appear softer.

Flawless Medspa offers both Botox and Dysport® as neuromodulator options. Your injector will discuss which product best matches your treatment area and goals during your consultation.

What Can Botox Treat?

Our injectors use Botox to reduce and prevent visible dynamic wrinkles in the upper face, including:

  • Forehead lines – Horizontal lines across the forehead
  • Frown lines (the “11s”) – Vertical lines between the brows
  • Crow’s feet – Fine lines that fan out from the corners of the eyes

Benefits of Botox Treatment

Our patients appreciate Botox for benefits that include:

  • Non-surgical – No incisions, anesthesia, or significant recovery.
  • Rapid results – Initial improvements can appear in as little as three to five days.
  • Quick appointments – Most treatments take about 15 to 30 minutes.
  • Minimal downtime – Patients can return to most regular daily activities right away.
  • Customizable – Dosing and placement are tailored to your facial movement.
  • Wrinkle prevention – Lower-dose Botox can be used to slow the formation of new lines.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Botox?

Men and women of many ages can be good candidates for Botox. Some patients choose to start Botox in their 20s or 30s to prevent wrinkles, while others begin treatment in their 40s, 50s, or 60s to address noticeable lines and creases.

During your consultation, your injector will review your medical history and current medications to confirm whether Botox is appropriate for you. Generally, good candidates:

  • Have dynamic wrinkles such as forehead lines, frown lines, or crow’s feet
  • Are in good general health
  • Have realistic expectations about results
  • Are not pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Do not have an active skin infection at the planned injection sites
  • Do not have a known allergy to any ingredients in Botox

How to Prepare for Your Botox Appointment

A few simple steps before your appointment can help reduce the chance of bruising and support a smooth recovery.

  • Avoid alcohol: Refrain from drinking alcohol for 24 to 48 hours before your appointment, as it can increase the likelihood of bruising.
  • Pause blood-thinning medications and supplements: If you take aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E, or other blood-thinning products, speak with both your injector and prescribing physician before making any changes. Never stop a prescribed medication without medical guidance.
  • Postpone aggressive skincare treatments: Avoid waxing, chemical exfoliants, and retinol treatments on the same day as your Botox appointment.

What to Expect During Your Botox Treatment

Most Botox appointments at our Burlington and Norwell medspas take about 15 to 30 minutes from start to finish. Your injector will discuss your aesthetic goals and examine how your facial muscles move before mapping out injection points.

The treatment area is cleansed, and a topical numbing cream may be applied for comfort if desired. Your injector will then use a fine needle to deliver a series of small injections into the targeted muscles.

What to Expect After Botox Injections

Botox is considered a low-downtime treatment. Mild redness, swelling, tenderness, small bumps at the injection sites, or minor bruising can occur after treatment. These effects typically resolve within 24 to 48 hours.

It’s important to follow all aftercare instructions to ensure optimal results:

  • For the first 24 hours: Avoid strenuous exercise, rubbing or massaging the treated areas, and lying flat for extended periods.
  • For 24 to 48 hours: Limit exposure to intense heat, including saunas, hot yoga, steam rooms, and prolonged sun exposure, and refrain from alcohol.
  • Adjust your skincare routine: Wait at least 24 hours before using retinol or aggressive exfoliants. Depending on your skincare routine, your injector may recommend waiting longer.

Botox Results Timeline

Many patients begin to notice softening of expression lines within three to five days. Final results are typically visible around two weeks after treatment.

Results last about three to four months. With consistent maintenance, some patients find that the effects last longer over time. Your injector will recommend a personalized retreatment schedule based on how your body responds.
